The NEW Istanbul Restaurant

Please note that this is completely different from the old "Istanbul" restaurant. It is on Cowley Road itself, and is run by different people!

The Menu is varied (see below), and very reasonably priced -- slightly cheaper than the old "Istanbul", and definitely cheaper than Freuds! As well as a wide range of Turkish dishes (including several unusual starters), it offers pizzas (buy one get one free), fish/ chicken/ pies and chips, as well as Jacket Potatoes (GBP 2.00 -- GBP 4.00), and various salads, They do not serve, and are not licensed for, alcohol.

They have special Student Offers.

The address is 266 Cowley Road -- on the right hand side when going out of town, just by the pedestrian traffic lights before Divinity Road, and Leopold Street.

Here is the Google Maps version (with Streetview) -- N.B. This "streetview" image is out-of-date. "Istanbul" appears here as "Spice Village" -- in any case between "Amy Nails" and Riaz MSB Limited"!

Here is the streetmap.co.uk map.

Parking: this is fairly easy -- as before (with the old Istanbul/Caffino) there are usually free spaces on Manzil Way (one minute walk!); there may also be spaces in some of the nearby side streets, notably Leopold Street, though probably not Divinity Road!

The facilities

We can normally get 4-5 boards (8-10 people) each evening. We will be limited to 2 double tables (each 4 people/ 2 boards, for a total of 8 people/ 4 boards), perhaps with an additional single table (2 people/ 1 board).

The tables are quite small, so we usually use small-format 19x19 boards, although a double table will allow one full size 19x19 board, and one small-format 19x19 board, or a 13x13 board!

Please do buy some food, if only a starter, or some baklava!

The Menu

The prices are current as of 2010/04/01. I notice that it does not include Baklava, which I have eaten there!
