Problem 120 – Interactive Solution with WGo

Here, we discuss a single problem (#120) from 囲碁 発陽論 (Igo Hatsuyōron) – in Chinese: 围棋 [圍棋] 发阳论 (Wéiqí FāYángLùn), and in Korean: 위기발양론 (Wiki Balyangron) – attributed to 井上道節因碩 (Inoue Dosetsu Inseki, 1646-1719)

This page is a supplement to the extensive web-site about this classic problem, maintained by Thomas Redecker. Sensei's Library has more links to further analyses of this problem.

Please Note: the main web site has very detailed comments. The file used here has almost no comments, and shows the latest (at mid 2017) substantive research, which is still going on.

Any comments? Please email the researchers (Thomas Redecker, Joachim Meinhardt, and Harry Fearnley) via igohatsuyoron120@gmail.comZZZ (sorry - remove "ZZZ" from email address)

Viewing and Editing with Wgo

N.B. (Our use of) WGo seems to have a very serious problem: when the (arrow) cursor is hovering over the board, the point that will be selected when you click is shown elsewhere as a stone (black or white, as appropriate) – the stone cursor. The stone cursor may be far distant from the arrow cursor. Unfortunately, if the stone cursor is far above (say) the arrow cursor, then you can never select a point on the lower edge of the board, because the arrow cursor is no longer over the board!

Before you do anything, we suggest that you use the Menu at top left to Display Coordinates. To be able to select a point (with the stone cursor), you must first enable Edit mode, using the Menu.

To see a labelled variation. You need to move the stone cursor to that point, and then click.

You can add new stones simply by clicking when the stone cursor is in the correct place. This will start a new variation. The new variation will become the new default variation, and will be given the next available label.

You cannot delete stones/variations that you have added.
